Romanello

Romanello is an italian takeaway in Melbourne, specializing in pizza al taglio and schiacciata. Its identity is built around the Herold typeface from 1901, scanned and redrawn from an old catalog. Its bold and organic letters transform into dynamic illustrations, while the illustrations emphasize the unrestrained pleasure of eating—with hands as the main protagonist—in a caricature-like or even grotesque style. We create a non-hierarchical identity, merging typography, calligraphy, and illustration into a multi-ingredient layered system that evokes the natural chaos of a pizzaiolo in action. With no strict rules or fixed recipes, Romanello celebrates the joy and pleasure of eating and cooking with one's hands.
